Somewhere in Singapore

In case you’ve been wondering why my posts were sporadic, it was because I had to help an old friend pass on and been with him by his side as he slip away. I hope he is now in a better place.

Heard this song at his funeral and it was meaningful and reminded me about life (and death) issues.

Artist: Five For Fighting lyrics
Song Title: The Riddle

There was a man back in ’95
Whose heart ran out of summers
But before he died, I asked him
Wait, what’s the sense in life
Come over me, come over me

He said, son, why you’ve got to sing that tune
Catch a Dylan song or some eclipse of the moon
Let an angel swing and make you swoon
Then you will see, you will see

Then he said,
Here’s a riddle for you
Find the answer
There’s a reason for the world
You and I

I used to wanna be a vampire when I was young. No, not the Twilight kind but the Bram Stoker type, or the Anne Rice type where you are really the master of your soul. The idea of immortality and the powers impressed me greatly.

When I got older, I realise that God has a purpose why he kept the Tree of Life from us – perhaps to save us from eternal misery after having taken the Fruit of Knowledge. We are so clever in making a mess of our lives without trying too hard.

‘The Riddle” is an apt song about living life to the fullest. Dont wanna interpret too much into the song’s lyrics but I believe that is what it is about.

We will not be able to bring anything with us to the next place but perhaps the memories and our experiences in this life. It is about seeing the ‘scheme of things’, tolerating loneliness, finding meaning to our senseless existence on this planet – the ‘reason for the world’, and finding each other: our soulmate ’cause we’re all we’ve got on this bouncing ball’.

Five For Fighting – The Riddle

In any case, I’m ok and will be back to work shortly. Still in process of sorting out myself and my family (what remains of it anyway). I dont intend to lecture about life or death here on my blog but just an update for the many friends whom have been considerably concerned about my well being the past few weeks. Thank you. You know who you are.
